Placed at the epicenter of a melodic universe that probes the space between pain and pleasure - think luminescent, asymmetrical 80s synth-pop with the throb of “desert noir” - tinged folk rock. Prince Edward Island-born multi-hyphenate Russell Louder's voice is a resolute anchor in a lyrical sea of heart-stopping declarations and gut-churning reckonings. The goal? Redesigning the dancefloor as a place for a public celebration of vulnerability. Their most recent sophomore album (via Lisbon Lux Records): 'Fair-weather' while reminiscent of their renowned legacy of arresting and sparse vocal-centered electronica, takes its cues from artists as varied as Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus, to Laurie Anderson and Peter Gabriel, weaving together an amorphous blend of genres. That savant mélange truly is the mark of an artist with limitless ambition — and the skill to prioritize cohesion and clarity.
Developing the foundations of the project from an attic room in Iceland in 2015, and cutting their teeth touring nationally and internationally, they’ve since seen their debut album, ‘Humor’ (via Lisbon Lux Records) long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize, consistently charting on CBC radio as well as college campus radio across Canada.
